Creating a Customer Avatar

Here is a good representation of the prototypical customer that is in my segment as a college student and for the purposes of this assignment, he is a college student named Tim here at the University of Florida. As the prototypical customer for the pedestrian bridge that I want to build on Museum Road,  Tim enjoys going to classes at the University of Florida, which requires him to walk a lot. Sometimes stressed out with the curriculum, Tim decides to play games on his mobile phone or listen to music with his head phones as he walks from class to class. Doing this, Tim is often not paying too much attention to the cars driving by him on the road. He often relies on the good will of the drivers that they will pay attention to where he is walking when he decides to cross the street.

Similar to my prototypical customer Tim, I am also a student here at the University of Florida. Additionally, I know that there have been plenty of times when I have been walking around on campus while I am distracted by using my mobile phone or talking with my friends. With this, I will often find myself crossing the streets around campus and relying heavily on the fact that drivers will see me and recognize to slow down and stop their vehicle while I cross. This similarity that I have with Tim is not a coincidence, but is rather a common attitude that is expressed by college students here at Florida. We are easily distracted, but when the time comes that our safety is potentially at risk, we rely that others will not commit any actions that will cause harm to us.

  1. Hi Travis! I really like how you set up this blog post for this assignment. You were not only able to define and clearly explain your prototypical user of your opportunity, but you were also able to tell somewhat of a story with it as well, which really helped understand better. It also allowed me to realize that you have a very good understanding of your target market and I think that is essential when trying to follow through with any opportunity.

  2. Hey Travis! You described your prototypical customer very nicely and described Tim with good detail. It's relatable to think about how I, too, will be on my phone and not paying attention to traffic as I use a crosswalk. I like how you mentioned that this is a "common attitude" of college students here, because I see students looking down at their phones ALL the time. I hope your idea will keep drivers and pedestrians safe!

  3. Hi Travis,
I liked your post a lot. I liked your prototypical customer as well because it encompasses most students. I know me personally is included in your customer. I liked how you named him Tim as well. I think that’s cool because it makes it more personal. I did not name my prototypical customer but now I wish that I had.

  4. Hi Travis,

I think you did a great job of outlining the customer avatar that fits your product idea. One key point that you brought up is that your customer is usually engaged in some form of entertainment on their phone, whether it is social media, music, or something else. I see so many people around campus doing this exact thing, where they aren't paying attention to their surroundings, and end up hurting themselves. This bridge could definitely prevent these kinds of people from getting themselves into potentially harmful situations.

  5. Hi Travis, With your opportunity, it is all about the college students and making their life easier. Although it would help out the staff too, I believe you did a good job with depicting your avatar as a general college student. You did a good job of noting that the college students might be distracted and this bridge idea would be ideal. I like how you related to the avatar because it makes the people feel more inclined to follow your idea.
